Ex-Wife Drags Gospel Icon Edward Akwasi Boateng to Court, Seeks 50% Share of Kumasi Property

Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has disclosed that his estranged wife, Genevieve, is pursuing legal action to obtain custody of their children and a 50 percent share of his Kumasi residence. The development follows Boateng’s initiation of divorce proceedings at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to formalize their separation.

In a recent update shared on his official YouTube channel, Boateng revealed that Genevieve had returned the bride price presented to her family during their marriage rites and is now asserting ownership rights over the Kumasi property. She contends that the house was acquired during the marriage and therefore qualifies as a marital asset. The couple, who married in 1999, share four children.

Citing court documents referenced in his broadcast, Boateng explained that Genevieve alleges he secured a loan during their marriage with her support, which remains unpaid. On this basis, she argues that she is entitled to an equal share of the property.

Boateng, however, has categorically refuted these claims. He maintains that the construction of the Kumasi home was financed solely through proceeds from his gospel career, particularly the success of his hit song Ade Mepe, which he credits as the source of the funds used for the project. He further emphasized that he provided significant support to Genevieve throughout their marriage, including sponsoring her travels abroad, purchasing a vehicle for her, and assisting her in acquiring a United Kingdom passport.

Addressing the emotional toll of the dispute, Boateng remarked that the trials faced by Christians can be daunting, but expressed unwavering faith in divine intervention. “God will see me through,” he affirmed.

The gospel singer also extended heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians who have supported him over the years, recalling how many witnessed him selling his music on flash drives in local markets as a means of survival. He appealed for calm and patience as the legal proceedings continue.
