The Bono Regional Police Command has recorded a significant milestone in its fight against crime, following a series of intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of multiple suspects involved in armed robbery and other criminal activities across the region and its surrounding communities.
The coordinated operations, carried out by highly skilled intelligence teams, targeted two major criminal gangs believed to have been terrorizing residents, travelers, and traders along key road networks, including the Berekum–Drobo stretch.
Foiled Robbery and First Gang Arrests
Police investigations revealed that on 18th November, 2025, some members of one of the gangs attempted to rob commuters on the Berekum–Drobo Road. Thanks to the swift intervention of the Police Patrol Team, the robbery attempt was foiled.
Subsequent investigations uncovered that the attempted robbery was orchestrated by a five-member gang led by Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo, an ex-convict. His accomplices, Shadrach Owusu (alias Shark), Kwafo Samuel (an ex-convict aged 30), Latif Mustapha (alias Star Boy), Mosby Owusu (aged 20), Kofi Iddrisa (aged 45), and Baba Kumi Foster (aged 35) were later arrested in separate operations.
During interrogations, two of the suspects, Kwafo Samuel and Shadrach Owusu, confessed to their roles in the attack and named Johnson Kwame Diawuo as the mastermind behind multiple robberies, especially within the Nkaseim area of the Ahafo Region.
A targeted operation at Nyamennae, a suburb of Berekum, led to the arrest of ringleader Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo at his hideout. A search in his room led to the retrieval of critical exhibits including:
Quantities of Indian hemp
Two motorcycle helmets
Two machetes
These items have been retained and are currently serving as evidence.
Second Criminal Gang Dismantled
In another intelligence-led operation focused on Berekum and nearby areas, the Regional Police Intelligence (PID) team successfully dismantled a second criminal network.
Three suspects, Latif Mustapha (alias Star Boy), Mosby Owusu, and Kwabena Agon Azubilla Akalatoy (aged 18) were arrested at Domfete, a suburb of Berekum. Latif Mustapha attempted to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling of his home but was eventually apprehended following a thorough police search.
Kwabena Agon Azubilla Akalatoy was identified as the original owner of a stolen pistol recovered by the police and has since been remanded.
Commitment to Community Safety
These successful operations reflect the Ghana Police Service’s unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal syndicates and safeguard communities within the Bono Region and beyond. The strategic use of intelligence, combined with swift and coordinated actions by various police units, continues to strengthen public confidence and enhance safety across the region.
The Bono Regional Police Command assures the public of its continuous efforts to ensure law and order, urging residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
