The DAHA Health Screening Program event: Bringing Free Healthcare Screenings to the Kintampo Community
In a significant effort to improve healthcare access in the Kintampo municipality, the DAHA Health Screening Program, in partnership with Mega Life Sciences and Publix Medical Hospital, recently conducted a free, one-day health screening event for the local community.
Held on August 24th, 2024 at the Kintampo Old Market Square, the screening targeted women traders and the elderly – groups that often face barriers to regular medical check-ups. Over the course of 7 hours, a total of 150 participants received a comprehensive suite of screening services, including tests for hepatitis, blood glucose, blood grouping, and blood pressure. Additionally, participants benefited from free consultations, vital signs assessments, and educational materials on important health topics.
“Many residents in this area simply don’t have the time or resources to regularly visit the doctor,” said Farouk Amos, one of the DAHA program coordinators. “By bringing these critical screening services directly to the community, we’re able to detect health issues early and connect people to the care they need.”
To ensure accessibility, DAHA distributed 75 priority vouchers to high-risk individuals, guaranteeing them access to the screenings. This targeted approach helped to reach the most vulnerable members of the Kintampo population.
The event was a resounding success, with participants expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity. “I’m so thankful that DAHA came to our market,” shared Rashida Iddrisu, a local trader. “I was able to get tested for things I hadn’t checked in years, and the doctors gave me helpful advice on how to improve my health.”
This health screening initiative is a powerful example of how strategic partnerships and community-driven solutions can expand healthcare access, especially in underserved areas. By leveraging the expertise and resources of organizations like Mega Life Sciences and Publix Medical Hospital, DAHA was able to deliver critical preventive services to those who need them most.
