Lamine Yamal Nasraoui Ebana, a Spanish professional footballer who plays right wing for La Liga club Barcelona and the Spanish national team, was born on July 13, 2007.
Yamal rose through the La Masia young ranks and was immediately considered one of the academy’s top prospects. Despite being added to the Juvenil A team for the 2022–2023 season, which was already beyond his age grade, Yamal was chosen by Xavi to train with the first team in early September 2022 along with other young players.
He hasn’t joined the club on a professional level yet, but he seems to be one of the youth players that most impressed the Catalan coach.
At 15 years, 9 months, and 16 days old, Yamal became the youngest player to play for Barcelona’s first team when he replaced Gavi in the 83rd minute of a 4-0 La Liga victory over Real Betis.
Yamal also recorded a shot on goal against former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo during that game.On May 14, 2023, he earned his first championship with Barça after being a member of the team that won the 2022–23 La Liga.Despite this, he would be away representing Spain on international duty the week after the title celebration.
At the age of 16 years and 38 days, Yamal made his debut for the team on August 20, 2023, in a 2-0 win over Cádiz at the Estadi Olmpic Llus Companys, making him the club’s youngest starter in La Liga.
The opposition supporters gave him a standing ovation when he made his debut and cheered him off with five minutes remained in the match.After helping set up two goals by Gavi and Robert Lewandowski in a 4-3 victory over Villarreal on August 28, 2023, Yamal earned his next starting position. He was the youngest player to provide an assist in a La Liga game at the age of 16 years, 45 days.
Due to his efforts, he received the first-ever U23 Player of the Month award for August.At 16 years and 68 days old, Yamal became the second-youngest player to appear in the Champions League, just behind Youssoufa Moukoko, on September 19 in a 5-0 victory over Antwerp.
Yamal has represented Spain in youth international competition at the U15 and U16 levels.
He competed for Spain’s U17 team at the 2023 European U17 Championship, scoring four goals in the process. Spain advanced all the way to the semifinals before being eliminated 3-1 by France.
Coach Luis de la Fuente called up Yamal for the 2024 Euros qualifications against Georgia and Cyprus on September 1, 2023, when he was 16 years and 50 days old. On September 8, 2023, Yamal made his senior debut for Spain against Georgia, scoring in the 74th minute of a 7-1 triumph.
He broke both of Gavi’s records, who made his debut at 17 years and 62 days old and scored at 17 years and 304 days old, becoming Spain’s youngest player and goalscorer at the age of 16 years and 57 days. In addition, Yamal broke Gareth Bale’s record for the youngest goal scorer in a Euro qualifying game by scoring at the age of 17 years and 83 days.
